Binders, body shapers, and PS.....no BS!!
KarenS brought up an interesting point today. She has been wearing a binder that was no longer comfortable and switched to a body shaper.
I had a binder and never went to a shaper. I do wear Spanx occasionally but now I just wear Flexees underwear that are a little tight. Nothing down on my thighs or legs or holding anything in.
I'm about 8 weeks out at this point. Why exactly do you wear a body shaper and should I still be wearing one? My surgeon wasn't very clear on that and I really don't know. So, I'm not wearing much of anything.
Anyone got answers?
Janet
First, Merry Christmas, Janet. I still wear a full body shaper. I just feel more secure in it. I had the fleur de les so it is a little different than both Karen's and your surgery. My surgeon told me that it takes several months for your skin to reattach to the muscles and you can get fluid build up between it so she wanted me to wear it for as long as possible. I have such a flat stomach now that I do not have to wear it but it just feels good. If I do not wear it sometimes it feels like its pulling around the scar area. Do you get that feeling? Also it feels really funny when I lay on my stomach during my yoga classes. Just my hip and pelvic bones touch the floor now- really strange feeling. I guess that is what thin women have felt for years but to me it is really strange.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas tomorrow.
Debi
What's the fleur de les? And WHERE are the pictures of the new, improved Debi? You must be just a shadow of the woman we met in San Francisco!
I think of that trip so often, and miss the people I met. In fact, I was going through some pictures the other day and came across the CD that Janet sent of all (400!) of her pictures, and sat me down with a cup of coffee and browsed through them. We had so much fun!
Hope Christmas is everything that you hope for.

I wore my binders, 2, for many many weeks. I wore one up under my new tiny girls and one from my waist to mons. I was very slow to give them up. I had surgery in late Sept 06 and we left for Florida and parts south on Nov 1st. The binders helped me with the daily travel. I went to a plain bra and support type panties once we got in Florida. I am still tight, flat, and tiny. I haven't had a bra on for months and months. I wear support/band tank tops.
Good luck finding a comfy transition garment. Check with you doctor. Remember to be good to you.
Hugs, Monica
Do you have a secret for keeping that binder from crawling up or flipping up at the bottom. I'm always tugging at it, and that can't be good for my incision. That's why I moved to a body shaper....it stays put and I feel snug and tight in those.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU, and please pop in more often.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
I'm glad you asked that question because I am still wondering about this whole binder/body shaper thing myself. I am wearing the body shaper during the day.....pretty tight, but not as tight as the binder I guess, and switch to the binder at night so my "nether regions" can get air...Ha! However, in the middle of the night the binder has crawled up and is basically doing nothing except annoying me.
What are Spanx? Are they like tight panties? I must be "clothing challenged" because I don't know what Flexees are either!!
I get some good information on the Plastic Surgery board, but they seem as confused and have been told a wide range of different things...so who do we believe? Tis a puzzlement!
MERRY CHRISTMAS.....It's wee hours of Christmas morning here right now....still dark outside. I wonder if Santa came last night...hummmm.
Aloha nui loa,

Just my two cents here. I'd have a bugger of a time wearing anything close fitting any longer than possible ANYWHERE (Maui or Texas for sure!) when it is warm and humid. I still have a small spot on each hip that isn't totally healed. . . Yes, I still pick at the scabs that form. I try to keep them covered but then I pick off the tape or bandaids covering them and dig until I have exposed that poor bare skin yet again.
I still want to get an upper thigh lift so bad, but told myself that I HAVE to lose 20 lbs before even considering it never mind the $$$$$ that it will cost. I have Spanx and the cheaper Target version made also by the Spanx lady, Sara Blakely. Neither of them fits well enough to be called comfortable. I bought the size that the chart said to but it still feels too tight on my thighs.
MK, We have 12 inches of SNOW here. It's melting today and it was beautiful for Christmas but man oh man am I ready for spring!!!
